I’m pretty sure it depends on the laws where you live. Here (in Iowa) I think it is illegal for a child to be in the front seat until they are 12. I did have my daughter back in ‘02 in the front seat of my ‘89 suburban for the first year of her life. That was the only way I could take care of her while we made the 1/2 hour commute to her daycare.
I would call your local police station and ask. Make sure you use the non-emergency number during regular business hours.
no very unsafe unless you have to like in those one row pick up trucks
if you break fast the seat will shake more violently in the front seat
If you have an older car without an airbag, it is safe assuming you attached it properly, using a seatbelt clip or a racheting system on the belt if it so equipped. My ex-wife had an accident with a baby in the front seat (rear facing in the infant position) in 1982 and he had no injuries. He’s now 25!!
I’ve always preferred the front seat as you trade the ability to reach the baby and work with them for a slightly less safe position. In the rear you had to turn around to see and work with them and this distraction alone can be fatal for both of you. Let’s see what some others think. Good Luck!!
Yes, but the middle rear of the car is the safest place in a car for a baby or an adult. I tend to agree that if you don’t have to turn around to monitor the baby it can be safer for both of you.
Unless you have a pick-up truck then the car seats should be placed in the back seat regardless of whether or not the car has front seat airbags.
Happens all the time.
Depends on where you live. I would check with the local authorities in your area to be sure. Where I live, here in Oz, it fine as long as there is no airbag, and you have the seat as far back if it’s adjustable. The preferred place for a car seat is the middle of the back, but it’s not always an option as some people only have a ute or truck that has only the front seat. When checking with your local authorities, see if there are any modifications you have to make to the car to have the seat installed correctly. Good luck, and hope this helps
Just because it’s legal in some areas, doesn’t make it smart.
If the front passenger side is the only seat available (like in a 2-seater car) then you won’t get in trouble with the law. However, the backseat is the safest place for a baby. And if you are pulled over and they see empty seats in the back and a baby seat in the front, there is a possibility of being fined as most states have rules regarding children riding in the front seat. For safety sake, kids under 12-13 should never ride in the front seat.
